Re: John Livingston and Helen Cockburn Marriage

Hi Donald, Yes it is frustrating when you hit a brick wall. A couple of years ago I had a look at some old Kirk Session records and they can hold quite a bit of information if your ancestor had been "naughty" and was brought before the Kirk Session. You might want to check if any of these ...

Re: John Livingston and Helen Cockburn Marriage

Hi Donald, I haven't done much with my own research recently so that when I paid a visit to the Mitchell Library in Glasgow recently I was glad to spend the day tracking David's living family members. I need to spend some time going over my own tree to ascertain where the gaps are because it's so lo...

Re: John Livingston and Helen Cockburn Marriage

Hi David You could look for John's death certificate after 1855 and from that you would get his parents' names (if the person registering the death Knew them!). I'll probably be going to the Mitchell next week so if you can't find them - or there are too many - I can have a look then. Kind regards M...

Re: Looking for living relatives

Hello David, I have traced one branch of Mary Darling Livingston's grandchildren, gt .grandchidren and gt.gt.grandchildren living in Stirling. I have an address but because these people are living I don't think I should put their details on an open forum. If you could PM me your email address I will...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Hi Sandra Firstly Barbra was Duncan's sister. I found this in the Kilbrandon Kirk Session Records when she was brought before the session for having an illegitimate child. She in turn claimed that Archibald McCallum of Oban Seil was the father and claimed that he had acknowledged her to be his lawfu...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Yes Donald, Neil did live in Lochgilphead. Very early on in my journey into genealogy I spent the day at the Archives in Lochgilphead and the Archivist then was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He has now retired but I've no doubt his successor will be equally helpful. Unfortunately I didn't rea...
