Re: 1911 Scottish Census--Coming 5 Apr 2011

Indeed, Kaye, that would have been wise. I think they said they were extending the credit time too--is it a year now? Anyway--the census is NOW LIVE! Yes, they did extend the credit time - and to my surprise they backdated it - mine expired on the 31st of March - I was expecting to buy one more set...

Re: Spreading the word about the MacLea/Livingstone DNA Proj

I've been offering to pay for an unknown male relative to be tested for about 5 years now and can't get a bite. As my Livingstone was female (Jessie) none of my immediate relatives are of any use, and we all know that Jessie's brother was Ginger's ancestor, so that covers them. The ones I've been tr...

Re: 1911 Scottish Census--Coming 5 Apr 2011

I knew this was coming up and that I was likely to spend a lot of time and money on ScotlandsPeople come April :D . So, because I had some money and the NZ/UK exchange rate was so good over the Christmas period I bought lots of credits. I know that they only last 3 months (although from April 1 they...

Re: Our thoughts are with those in Christchurch NZ

Finally I turn up - what a week it has been - between the earthquake, the death of a friend (not earthquake related) and the students arriving back for the new academic year it has been all go. Thanks everyone for your thoughts - all is fine with my family and friends. Although I live 220 miles sout...

Re: Dunedin, New Zealand

Sorry this has taken a while to write up - and now I'm not sure I can figure out how to upload some photos (which is annoying for someone employed in a Computer Science Department :D ) but if I can't figure it out at the end then I'll devise a webpage and put up a link to it. Well the 28th was a glo...

The Highland Games, run by the Caledonian Society of Otago, will take place at the Caledonian Ground, Dunedin this coming Sunday, 28 November from 12noon to 4pm - entry charge $10.00. I thought I would go along and see what is there in the way of Clan Representation and see how we can be involved in...

Re: New Zealand Members

Hi Jill Yes, you're right. A lot has come to light after the main event. They're still having some large aftershocks and the water and drainage systems have huge repairs to be made. The city is basically closed down until Wednesday while each building is inspected. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and...

Re: New Zealand Members

Thanks guys. Not sure who we've got in Christchurch. Reports from there say that there have only been 2 serious injuries, which is great for a city of that size. Several older houses in the area have come down, and lots of older brick walls and chimney have come down. The city has just issued a Stat...

Just in case you live in the area, or are planning a holiday in Dunedin in January, or maybe you may even want to visit from foreign lands, the University of Otago is holding a Scottish Summer School over 4 days, running from 25-28 January 2011. (Don't forget summer is Dec/Jan/Feb in New Zealand :D ...
