Re: Angus Livingstone& Margaret (Hall/McPhail), Shiaba, Mul

What a splendid collection of photos, John. We were on Mull in mid-end May during the very hot spell and visited Kintra.

Re: Quick Writing Project: Volunteer Needed

Hi Kyle, I have a potted clan history. You may remember that I wrote a history of my family which appeared in Parnassus. I expanded this for my family and, to put them in the picture, wrote this truncated clan history. It can be expanded (in fact should be expanded) and I also have photos of the St,...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Thank you for your kind offer, Margaret. I too have a copy of the book and have found what it has to say about the history of Kilchattan parish very interesting. I hope that you have success in tracing your family further back. I have followed your thread with great interest, but although our famili...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

With regard to the Luing History Group, I found them most helpful when I was looking for info about my family. They published a book, Kilchattan Kirkyard, listing all the graves whose headstones and slabs were still legible, as their burial records had been lost. This was a labour of love, involving...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Hi John, I was just replying to Donald who remarked that the Earls of Breadalbane must have been large landowners, as indeed they were. I thought that he might be interested as to just how big and what happened to their lands and fortune. Donald: I look forward to seeing your new article in the next...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Hi Donald, Yes, the Earl of Breadalbane was a v ery large landowner with lands stretching from Perthshire, through Argyll and all the way to Mull. One of my forebears, not a Livingston, was one of his factors. In the 1920s the Earl of Breadalbane of the day and his wife went to Monte Carlo. There, t...

Re: Official Crest?

I think that if you wish to use the arms belonging to the chief, as well as saying that they are his personal property, it would perhaps be polite to ask his permission to use them before doing so.

Re: Official Crest?

Hi Barry, This one is a bit of a mish-mash. It is part lowland Livingston and part I know not quite what! We are highland Livingstones and our clan crest badge is shown at the top of the page. If you want to read more about the heraldry of the clan, at the top of the page go to Clan Web>heraldry and...

Re: Best Places to Visit in Scotland

Certainly Plockton is a lovely village. It is not on the open sea, but set at the head of a small bay off Loch Carron amid stunning scenery. In fact, the whole area of Wester Ross is beautiful and well worth a visit. I agree, Donald, that it would be a good idea to incorporate some photos of Lismore...
