Livingstons near Dunstaffnage Castle

Post by rmg1901 »

Our great-grandfather Neil Livingston (grandson of Neil Livingston b. c.1770s, m. c.1795 Mary McIlriach) claimed that our ancestors came from just north of Oban "near Dunstaffnage Castle". We're aware that Dunstaffnage Castle itself has been held by the Clan Campbell for many centuries, but wonder if anyone has knowledge of Livingstons living in the nearby area, perhaps on the Dunstaffnage Estate. The only two bits of information we have are:
1. A John Livingstone and wife Isabell McPhail had three children born at Dunbeg, namely Katherine b. 1788, Archibald, b. 1789 and Flora b. 1796. The family appear to have then moved to Galanach-beg where three more children were born.
2. "John Livingstone buried Dunstaffnage about 1837. His grandfather Malcolm formerly Kerrera 1847" (source unknown).
Any information to help further our search for ancestors, in particular parents of Neil Livingston b. c.1770s, appreciated!
