Hi New to this

Post by Julie H »

Hello all
I ust wanted to introduce myself. Julie Livingstone Hammond.
My direct line is as follows:
Neil Livingston and Cristy Boyd
Donald and Cirsty Campbell
Hugh Livingston and Margaret McQuarrie. Emmigrated to Bentinick Ontario Canada
Charles L and Eleanor Emmett L
Archibald L and Elsie Leatherdale
Hugh L and Jean Mack

I am continually looking to confirm a lot of the above in particular that Neil Livingston is the father of Donald. There are others on Ancestry that believe his father is John Livingston. Any help of info is always needed. Thanks

Hi Julie,
I am the Clan Maclea Livingstone Society Historian. Hopefully some of this earlier info of mine which I just updated and made a few corrections to today might be of some help in answering some of your questions regarding Donald Livingston crofter and his wife Cirsty Campbell.
Sorry I did not see your posting earlier as it was in the general info site and most inquiries tend to be the ancestry search section. Donald Livingston and his wife Cirsty Campbell resided in Kilfinichen Parish in Ross of Mull and John Livingston and his wife Flora McKinnon resided father to the north in Mull in Kilninian Parish. I understand having looked into the challenge regarding figuring out whether the Hugh Livingston from Mull, Argyll, Scotland who settled in1840's in Grey County, Ontario is the son Hugh of Donald LIvingston and Cirsty Campbell of Kilfinchen Parish in Ross of Mull or the son Hugh of John Livingston and his wife Flora Mckinnon of KIlninian Parish also in he Mull area of Argyllshire, Scotland. One thing that Livingston family researchers should bear in mind is that Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbell's son Hugh was baptized and likely born in 1809 according to the Kilfinchen Parish Church of Scotland records and Hugh son of John Livingston and his wife Flora McKinnon on the other hand was baptized in 1815 and likely born in 1815. And it is important to note that that years in Grey County, Ontario Canada the gravestone of a Hugh Livingston states he was 68 when he died in 1883 as does his death record which would strongly suggest he was born either in 1815 or perhaps 1814 at the earliest. Having given this matter some thought after seeing your message earlier in July my sense is that Hugh Livingston of Bentinck Township, Grey County, Ontario 1815-1883 is most likely the son of John Livingston and Flora McKinnon who was born abt. 1815 in "Tobermory" in Kilninian Parish, Mull, Argyll and baptized on February 7, 1815 according to Church of Scotland Parish records in Kilninian Parish. I think there is some good supporting evidence in favour of the parents of Hugh actually being John Livingston and Flora Mckinnon of Tobermory, Kilninian Parish Argyll.

I also did some work and updating on Donald Livingston and his wife Cirsty Campbell of Kilfinichen Parish, Ross of Mull, Argyll and his family today which I posted on the ancestry search section of this Forum. I did this update to my earlier 2018 research as I finally came to conclusion that Hugh Livingston 1815-1883 of Bentinck Township, Grey County is most likely not a son of Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbell of Kilfinichen Parish, Ross of Mull but instead I believe he is probably Hugh Livingston born in 1815 or perhaps 1814 in Tobermory, Kilninian Parish, Mull the son of John Livingston and Flory McKinnon and baptized in Kilninian Parish according the old Kilninian Parish Church of Scotland records on February 7, 1815. His gravestone states that he was 68 years when he died in 1883. There is also a Province of Ontario death record states which confirms the gravestone info that he died February 10, 1883 in Bentinck Township, Grey County he was 68 years of age and which also strongly suggest he was born around 1815. Also it is interesting that he and his wife's first child a girl was named Flora which would make a lot of sense if Hugh's mother was named Flory Mckinnon. I think she was born possible in 1845 in Vaughn Township, York County north of Toronto in Ontario a year after the 1861 Census indicated the couple was married in the year given by Hugh and his wife Flora in that 1861 census of their marriage as being in "1844" no marriage location given. So for those reasons I am thinking it most likely that Hugh Livingston 1815-1883 is a son of John Livingston and Flora or Flory McKinnon of Tobermory, Kilninian Parish, Mull, Argyll and not Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbell of Kilfinichen Parish, Ross of Mull, Argyll as I earlier may have thought. Years ago I was researching Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbell but had not really done any research on their son Hugh.

I also should mention that oddly enough the Alexander Livingston 1811-1886 also buried in the same old Saugeen Cemetery in Bentinck Township, Grey County, Ontario I believe the other hand is the Alexander Livingston baptized and born in 1811 in Kilfinichen Parish, Ross of Mull to parents Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbell according to the Church of Scotland Kilfinichen Parish Ross of Mull, Argyll church records. Hope this is of some help to you.
