Hi Donald While I agree with your remark about adoption I wonder if adoption would be a necessary assumption. Is it your understanding that most clans started as a single nuclear family? I would have thought many were never one single family. What do you think? Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew, Well I guess in regards to the Maconlea/Livingstone clan origins I am not entirely certain of very much, but no I dont suppose were all going to neccessary originate from one original Dunsleeve/Maconlea ancestor from Western Argyll. I personally would be interested to see an intensive DNA samplings of Livingstones from Ulva, Mull, Morvern, Isle of Lismore, Benderloch and Appin etc and within this area of Western Argyll see which Livingstones match with Baron's family. I know some work has been done in this area, but ut would be interesting to see just how these Livingstones match each other. Donald

It'd be worth chasing up the name McPhail too, as my family too claim a clan relationship and cousinship to David Livingstone and we have a different DNA profile to the barons of Lismore. McPhails and Livingstones migrated en masse to Prince Edward Island and later Nova Scotia nearby in the period 1806-1817. Two Donald Livingstones surface in Prince Edward Island and Boulangerie in the period, as detailed on an earlier posting. I've found a McPhail/Livingstone marriage in
